I want to list two different physical images in the Bible that humans relate to constantly. One is a rock. More specifically for this episode, a cornerstone for a building.

Another is fresh water. Sometimes from a spring. sometimes from rain.

Humans come to rocks -- especially buildings. Humans come to water. It's done constantly.

In the NT, the two images both point toward Jesus. In our time, we come to Jesus like he's a rock and a building -- asking to please be let in. We come to Jesus like He's a spring of water -- asking to please let us drink.

It was not always that way. The spring of water was available after the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus, Jesus overcame some temptations, and began to preach.

The rock was available after the process of Jesus being rejected, killed and made alive.

The NT tells us to come to Jesus like he's both a spring of water and a cornerstone. Like we're thirsty, and like we need a place to be.

Jesus is the water that satisfies the thirst people have for life.

He is also the place for people and God to meet.
