Faithful to the Fragile Institution
I recently read an opinion about the virtue of faithfulness. But the opinion I read didn't seem to talk about faithfulness to the Most High. The phrase that seemed out of place was the phrase "faithfulness to the institution".
I have learned that I need to be faithful to a person. A person gives me life more than an institution.
So, in this episode I decided to list passages in the Bible where faithfulness to God was considered an impediment to the progress of institutions.
The Bible has many stories of people who weren't faithful to the institution of their day but were commended by God.
In Genesis 4,
Abel wasn't faithful to his brother's idea of honoring the firstborn. Neither was the Most High, who blessed Abel's offering instead of Cain's. I think Cain's offering of fruit was centered around human works; Abel's offering centered more on God's promises.
Cain felt he had to do something about the problem of the oldest son losing respect, so he killed his younger brother Abel.

In Genesis 11, the builders of the tower of Babel had an institution in mind. They didn't just want to build a tower, they wanted to build a city with a tower. They had a whole government planned with at least two major categories of people: the kind who designed brick molds, and the kind who filled them.
The Most High Himself thwarted this institution by confusing the language of the city. In doing so, I think He overthrew the retirement plans of the people who wanted to design molds for others to fill.

Jeremiah wasn't counted faithful to the government in Jerusalem when he wanted to make a real estate transaction.
In Jeremiah 37, the prophet was probably following a long term vision of prosperity by taking possession of land that was in the area of Benjamin. He was accused of deserting to Babylon. Jeremiah had a lot of enemies in the government and was put in chains for a long time.
Years later, Jeremiah would enjoy freedom but his captors would not fare so well.

Before that time, the prophet Micaiah betrayed king Ahab and the whole trade association of the court prophets by daring to foretell Ahab's death.
See 1 Kings 22.

In another episode I might talk about Jesus and the reason others thought He committed treason.
In summary, we have a perfect Person to follow. Yeshua ha Meshiach -- Jesus the Christ. As we follow Him, we see His life grow, and failing institutions topple.
