About Snitching
I was writing an episode and one of my early internal reviewers asked me to expand on the theme of "Snitching".
I'll spend a few minutes here talking about some Scriptures about snitching.
I’ll define “snitching” is reporting to an authority. Informing.
The book of Daniel contains a couple of “snitching” incidents. Daniel's three companions knew God had sent a dream to King N. about what the future contains. The message was in the dream where a statue was destroyed.
The three companions were snitched on when they later didn't bow to the Golden Statue of King Nebuchadnezzar. There was a question of authority here. Bowing was not in keeping with the message the three companions knew the King had received.
Daniel 3:12
12 There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up.”
......
Daniel himself was later snitched on by people who lied to another King, got a law passed and then snitched on Daniel when he broke the law.
NOTE in the next verses the difference between “these governors and satraps” and the upcoming word, “All …”
Daniel 6:6-9; 13
6 So these governors and satraps thronged before the king, and said thus to him: “King Darius, live forever!
7 All the governors of the kingdom, the administrators and satraps, the counselors and advisors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. 8 Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the writing, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which [a]does not alter.” 9 Therefore King Darius signed the written decree.
After more than a day passed, the snitches assembled and "REPORTED" to King Darius.
13 So they answered and said before the king, “That Daniel, who is one of the captives from Judah, does not show due regard for you, O king, or for the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.”
NOTE: God delivered. Lions didn't eat Daniel, but the ringleaders themselves became food for the lions.
It's pretty explicit. See Daniel 6:24.
......
Centuries later, Jesus had a snitch in his top twelve apostles. Judas betrayed Jesus before the crucifixion by snitching to the authorities at the time.
Matthew 26:14-16
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. 16 So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.
......
Paul also complained about snitches in Galatians 2. Peter behaved properly toward his Gentile brothers until certain people arrived. Then he turned back from his own Gentile brothers to go eat with the visitors.
Even Peter was afraid to be snitched on.
Galatians 2:11-13
11 Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; 12 for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. 13 And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.
......
Paul's later passage about tutoring and growing up imply that unlike Paul, Peter was at least momentarily afraid of being snitched on to a schoolmaster.
Galatians 3:24-25
24 Therefore the law was our [g]tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
That's the End of Appendix 1.
