This episode contains some examples of many stones becoming one in the Bible.

IN EXODUS 15 THERE’S A SONG ABOUT HOW PHARAOH SANK

One example of many becoming one: take a look at Pharaoh and his men all sinking to the bottom of the Red Sea in the account of Moses leading the descendants of Israel across. See Scripture in the Appendix.

Pharaoh had lots of stuff. Chariots and horses and riders. But the principle of sinking was evenly distributed across everything in Pharaoh's power that had crossed the boundary of the Red Sea. They all sank like *one* stone.

This many-becoming-one shows that people can be counted as *one* by believing and acting the same way. Pharaoh's army believed and acted as one. They sank as one.

Maybe here’s a life lesson: Don't work hard to get to be part of an army -- or a group -- that's going to lose because of a proud, foolish, cursed commander. You may get the same reward he does. Also remember, depending on their principles and actions, a group of people not only can sink but can also rise as *one*.

TWELVE STONES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE JORDAN

When Joshua crossed the Jordan, he ordered twelve stones brought out of the river. They had a purpose to become a mound – a heap – of rocks to commemorate the crossing of the Jordan. More on that mound of stones later.

Sometimes overlooked are the 12 stones that Joshua ordered to be brought down *into* the Jordan. They are 12 separate stones presumably representing the 12 tribes of Israel. They all reached the same destination -- left in the midst of the Jordan at the feet of the priests carrying the ark. After the priests left, the waters of the Jordan resumed its normal course over these 12 rocks.

TWELVE STONES BECOME A HEAP

As opposed to the rocks that were brought down to the bottom of the Jordan, I mentioned there were 12 rocks that were brought up.  They had a single purpose to become a mound of rocks to commemorate the crossing of the Jordan and probably also the heaping up of the waters of the Jordan during the crossing. They also were a foretaste of much

bigger mounds of rocks to mark executions and victories of the Israeli army.

KING NEBUCAHDNEZZAR'S FIRST DREAM

King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream of a rock that destroyed a statue and then that rock grew to fill the whole earth. It doesn't say the rock grew by becoming a heap of rocks -- it was one rock that supernaturally grew.

The King was told the rock represented the Kingdom of God. Listen to the Scriptures later in this episode.

CONCLUSION

The 21st century mind may miss the kind of warnings described around rocks. Here's the adjustment: if there's a singleness of outcome,

there's a singleness of the group. That's how Pharaoh's army can sink like one stone -- or one stone can grow large enough to crush a statue in a dream.

    and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea.

    they went down into the depths like *a* stone.

Joshua 4

Verse 9 And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in

the place where the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant had stood; and they are there to this day.

Earlier in Joshua 4

Verse 2 “Take twelve men from the people, from each tribe a man, 3 and command them, saying, ‘Take twelve stones from here out of the midst of the Jordan, from the very place where the priests' feet stood firmly, and bring them over with you and lay them down in the place where you lodge tonight.’”

Verse 20 And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up at Gilgal.

21 And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.’ 23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, 24 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”

Daniel 2

Verse 34 As you looked, a stone was cut out by no human hand, and it struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in

pieces. 35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, all together were broken in pieces, and became like the chaff of

the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the

image became *a* great mountain and filled the whole earth.

Verse 44 And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever, 45 just as you saw that a stone was cut from a mountain by no human hand, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold.
